News Release

Deccan Systems Inc. announces the introduction of DeccaPro, a versatile software for cost analysis in any business. The activity based cost estimating software can be used to model and estimate costs for manufacturing and services such as plastics molding, casting, extrusion, composites fabrication, machining, contract services, construction, and one-time projects. DeccaPro can handle batch (many parts), continuous (extrusion), and job costing. Features include integrated resource databases, detailed cost breakdowns, graphs, sensitivity analysis, cumulative reject rates, line rate calculations, bill of materials, and user defined equations.

Businesses, contractors, entrepreneurs, engineers, and marketers using DeccaPro can easily develop accurate cost models and conduct detailed what-if analyses to price products, reduce process costs, and make investment decisions. Win bids by comparing and optimizing manufacturing processes while also reducing bidding costs. Determine cost and feasibility of new products using preliminary product and marketing information. Identify production bottlenecks using line rate results. Validate pricing by comparing activity based cost with current costing methods. Materials manufacturers and fabricators can use it to market the cost benefits of their products.

Users with no costing expertise can learn and use the DeccaPro in as little as two hours. DeccaPro allows for intuitive cost estimating by modeling process activities using readily obtainable process information such as cycletimes, material quantities, and tooling costs. The costing model can use spreadsheet-like set of variables and equations to model complex manufacturing processes. At the press of a button, the user can study the effect of any variable such as part size, production volume, number of cavities, or cycletime on cost, profit, and line rates. Built-in functions allow calculation of volumes, machining times, learning rates, cost drivers, regrinds, and composite material quantities.

Sample models are provided for injection molding, reinforced plastics processes, extrusion, fabrication/assembly, construction, software development, product marketing, etc. A Quick Entry screen with user defined question prompts facilitates error-free data entry. The software has user definable databases for materials, labor, tooling, and machinery. The versatile materials database can store values, text data, graphs, formulations, and trouble shooting information for all types materials in standard industry formats.

DeccaPro works on IBM-compatible PC operating in Windows. A working demonstration program with example cost models can be downloaded at our website.

Deccan Systems does custom software development and consulting for business. For further information contact Deccan Systems Inc.

Plastics
Powerful cost estimating tool for all plastics processes

Increasingly, molders are required to supply integrated parts involving multiple parts, finishing, and assembly. Users must select from a wide range of resins and processes. Batches have to be made with short lead times. Material suppliers claim that new, more expensive resins cost less because of smaller material requirements, faster cycletime, and lower scrap rate.

DeccaPro provides answers to these issues by allowing users to develop cost models that take into account all process factors and the effect of material selection using equations that relate material type, mold temperature, mold pressure, cycletime, number of mold cavities, reject rate, regrind ratios, equipment costs, tooling life, etc. Import cost related variable values from an external analysis such as a spreadsheet or custom design program. The activity based costing structure facilitates methodical, error-free development of detailed models. Pre-built models can be copied and extended.

Users can store new resin data in ISO format in the materials database. Define compounds, do calculations, and store results. Quickly select materials using the materials property and structural response comparison tools.

Composites
Use DeccaPro for cost of manufacturing processes and materials calculations.

The selection of a composites fabrication process is dependent on materials choice and production volume economics. DeccaPro can model processes such as hand lay-up, spray-up, RTM, SMC, LPSMC, compression molding, and filament winding. The user can easily compare volume sensitivity to select the lowest cost process. Integrate basic design and product sizing using the equations feature. Then, for example, by merely changing part diameter the user can calculate wall thickness, material quantities, cycletimes, number of tools required and consequently product cost.

Ply and resin/filler/reinforcement calculations are easily done using the built-in functions and the formulation feature in the materials database. Users can also store corrosion data in standard industry format. In addition, the materials database can store standard and user-defined data for resins, fillers, reinforcements, and laminates.

Construction
Go beyond simple takeoffs and rate calcuations used by other software and implement easy to use yet detailed cost models.

Conventional construction programs use take off factors and roll up material, labor and sub-contract costs. This approach is not intuitive and requires the purchase of trade databases. Small and specialist contractors will find that DeccaPro is an ideal tool for pricing their services. For example, equations can be written to calculate quantities for studs, wallboard, nails, paint, labor hours, etc. using input data such as perimeter, number of corners, openings, etc. Then, creating a new quote and bill of materials is a matter of entering the dimensions and various options in the Quick Entry screen with helpful question prompts. The contractor can build a library of activities and quickly assemble new quotes. Do what-if analyses to help the customer make decisions. Use the materials database to store information like price, dimensions, color, and notes on commonly used materials.

General Business
Use it to price services, for business planning and to make investment decisions.

Competitiveness through innovation and cost reduction are key to business success. Successful launch of a new product requires knowledge of costs to analyze feasibility, market size, cash flow, and profitability. Aggregated accounting information does not provide detailed cost breakdowns to help identify cost reduction opportunities. Often burden rates are not allocated correctly to products. As a result certain products may show profits and growth because they are actually being subsidized by the "Cinderella" products. Use DeccaPro to determine true costs and profitability in all these instances.

The user can determine product or service cost even what accounting information is not available using general process information such as time per activity, setup frequencies, equipment costs, and labor rates. By modeling activities in detail, cost breakdowns and sensitivity analyses can be used to pinpoint cost reduction candidates. Break-even analyses are easily done in DeccaPro.

DeccaPro uses activity based cost modeling and can therefore model almost any business process that uses material, labor, expenditures, tooling, machinery, and investments. Sample models are provided to help the businessperson get started in modeling products and services. It is ideally suited for use by entrepreneurs and small businesspersons.

Trades, Professionals, Consultants
Use DeccaPro cost estimating in any business. Consultants earn more by including costing in your services.

DeccaPro can model almost any business process by using activity based cost modeling and providing the capability to write equations relating process variables and cost drivers like resource quantities, cycletimes, and take-offs. It can be used to estimate costs for software development, printing, landscaping, catering, and consulting. Processes are easily modeled in minute detail because DeccaPro makes it easy and intuitive to define multiple tasks and associated resource usage. Consultants can earn income by creating models and provide them to users for import into their cost model database.

A software project can be defined in terms of standard activities such as project definition, system study, design, programming, installation, etc. For each activity the user can add costs for multiple instances of labor, rent, travel, and equipment. Cost drivers such a programming time, meeting times, labor rates, etc. can be made functions of project parameters such as program complexity and number of data tables, windows, lines of code, etc. Then, it becomes very easy to change a few parameters and generate quotes for the customer. A similar approach can be used in any consulting job.

A catering cost model would use the number of people served as production volume. Then define activities such as preparation, delivery, on-site activity, etc. In each activity define labor, materials, equipment used. Use food cost data from the materials database. Define standard tasks for different menu items. Then change number of guests or menu items and determine cost per person.

DeccaPro allows the user to develop accurate costs and do what-if analyses. The benefits are credibility with customer, winning bids, loss avoidance, and less time spent on generating bids.
