Integrated Materials Database

beakers.wmf (1818 bytes) Store data for all types of materials, formulations, and products

You can store data (numeric, text, graphs) such as features, properties, prices, dimensions, etc. for resins, plastics  (CAMPUS style), fillers, adhesives, formulations, and construction materials. Look up and use values in design and costing. Select materials for structural performance. At the press of a button change from US to SI units.

Description

The Materials module provides a comprehensive database for storing materials data and materials selection. Tools are also provided for materials selection and comparison. The corrosion database is physically a part of the Materials module but is considered a separate module for application purposes and is described later.

A material is identified by it's trade name, generic name, category, and supplier. The generic name, category, and supplier are selected from user defined pick lists. Each material can have unlimited number of numerical property values. You can define your own properties. Attributes that can be linked to each material include features, uses, and processes. You can also define corrosion data consisting of corrosive name, use temperature and test results.

Materials can be studied in two application windows: Materials Data and Compare Materials . The Materials Data window is used to browse a list of materials and also to enter new data. The Compare Materials window is used to compare material properties and parametric performance.

Materials can be tagged and the tags can be stored in a separate tagset database. Later, when the user wants to view materials that were stored in a given tagset, it can be picked from a list and applied to the browse list.

User defined filters can also be stored and recalled for later use. A filter can be defined to include text and numerical conditions on trade name, generic name, category, supplier, features, uses, processes, material properties, and corrosive/use temperature,

You can define a new material. Material properties are assigned based on material category (see below) or are user defined. Attributes are selected and assigned from a pick list. New attributes can be created on the fly during materials definition.

Material Properties

DeccaPro comes with a large number of pre-defined property data definitions. The default list includes properties used to define thermoplastics by the CAMPUS standard. Orthotropic properties are also pre-defined to facilitate storing reinforced plastics data.

Property definitions include property name, units, and conversion factors (US to SI). When defining a material category, the user can set which default properties should be assigned to a new material having that category.

When a new material is being defined, the user can assign the default properties based on the material category selected. In addition, the user can assign properties from the list of all defined material properties or add a new property to use. Property data can be entered in US or SI units.

 Material Attributes

Features, uses and processes are material attributes. Material attributes are stored in a database. The user can assign multiple attributes to a given material from attribute pick-lists.

Using the filter, materials can be selected based on desired features, uses, and processes.

 Materials Corrosion Data

When a material is defined, you can also assign corrosion data including use temperature and test response. The user selects corrosives from a database and assigns corrosion performance data. The Corrosion application is used to view data and select materials. Alternatively, the filter in the Materials Selection browse can be used to identify materials for any combination of corrosives and use temperatures.

 Material Filters

The user can define and store material filters. Filters provide a way to screen materials by multiple conditions on trade name, category, generic name, supplier, attributes, and corrosion use temperature. Each filter can consist of multiple conditions on each material characteristic. Filters can be stored and reused.

 Reports

Reports are provided for viewing and printing material properties for one or more materials. In the Materials Data window, the user can print all data (properties and attributes) for the highlighted material. The Materials Compare window has two reports. The first one shows properties of up to 4 materials side by side. The other shows the comparison of structural parametric performance (ratios of performance, weight, cost, thickness) between any two user selected materials.
